Advances in Red Reflex
Vision screening aims at finding a red reflex when a photo is taken of the eye. A red reflex that is absent, partial, or white indicates there is an issue with the eye.
Arclight is a multi-purpose solar-powered/USB-rechargeable diagnostic tool that combines a direct ophthalmoscope, anterior segment loupe and otoscope (as well as a number of other functions) into a small highly portable device.
Originally made to overcome barriers to ownership in low-resource settings, Arclight can be attached to the camera of a smartphone, allowing easy documentation from the ophthalmoscope, otoscope and anterior segment loupe. This device creates a photographic record of a red reflex which is critical for documentation, teaching and cloud-based remote second opinion and review.

The "red eye" seen in photos taken with flash is the red reflex. This photo shows the child's left eye reflex is white, not red, and is an indication there is something wrong.
